Back to School Stresses: 4 Tips to Conquer Them
Oct 5, 2006, 18:47
As we drop our children at their classrooms, or watch them hop on the bus, or out of our minivans, thoughts race through our minds… will they eat a healthy lunch, did we spend enough time on their homework… are they making friends.. are we budgeting/saving enough for their future education… and so on. A recent survey from Little Grad, the Saving for College company, asked parents about the things that stress them out at back to school time. ... » More

My Mom has always been an example of Godly character in my life. She had open heart surgery last Wednesday morning. Before she went into surgery, my sister and I, were right by her side to see her off. She had such a peace on her face. She knew if something was to go wrong with the operation, that she would be with the Lord. My Mom, as far as I can remember, has been faithful to attend church. She has always kept the home... a place of cleanliness, a place of refuge, a place of peace. Seeing her laying there, knowing what she was facing, was very hard for my sister and me, yet she comforted us with her peaceful face.... » More

"Do you ever get overwhelmed with all that you have to do?" What a question, I thought, as the kind lady gazed into my eyes waiting in anticipation for an answer. "I'll have to be honest, " I replied, "Of course, there are times when it seems... » More

"How did you find out about homeschooling?" Many moms have asked me that question and it's one I really love to answer since it allows me to elaborate on my dear friend and mentor, Sheila Hatfield, who went home to be with the Lord this past January. "By being around someone who actually homeschooled," is my answer. ... » More

"What have your kids been doing since school's been out?" A nice neighbor friend recently asked me this question. I replied with, "They have been enjoying Summer so far, still singing in church and in their treehouse, and we've already made a day of swimming at the local pool." The Cubs do not get bored at the Lyon's Den, they are constantly coming up with something to do! We've taken up an hour a day of walking for fun & exercise even killing some snakes along the way, found a praying mantis or two for Israel's collection, and now have a total of 6 turtles for all 6 Cubs. So it has been a very productive Summer so far! ... » More

"Do you enjoy homeschooling?" My dear cousin asked me that question last week while we were visiting my parents who were entertaining relatives. "I enjoy seeing my kids grow and learn, it is a joy to see them excited about learning. I love to learn myself, so everyday we try to learn something new."... » More

"Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path." Psalm 119:105 As God leads you to homeschool your children remember to seek illumination from God's eternal Word and not from man's finite wisdom. Jesus is called the Master Teacher and we should look to his methods of teaching. Stories, discussion, example and experience are the primary teaching methods of Jesus. The Cubs love stories!

"Can I help you?" asked our 13 year old Rebekah while being nice to our neighbor who had just gotten out of his vehicle. He had a shocked look on his face as if he had never heard a teenager be so polite. The world doesn't show alot of kindness sometimes, but Jesus' ways are not the world's ways. I was very proud of her manners, Christlike behavior. This is one of the many reasons we choose to homeschool our children. "I have no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in the truth." 3 John 4... » More

Teaching Mother : 5-4-06

After an early breakfast at a buffet in Branson, Missouri recently an elderly man stopped me and said, "Are all of these your children?" I said, "Yes, they are all our children." He smiled and said, "Well, I have never seen such well behaved children." So I thanked him for his kind comments and we continued on our way. Had the kids been totally quiet during breakfast? No. Had they made only one trip to the buffet bar? No. Had they walked slowly to the buffet bar? No. Did they all sit down while eating their food? Yes. Did the older ones help the little ones? Yes. Did they tell us first before going to the restrooms? Yes. Did they try not to waste any food before going back to the breakfast bar? Yes. So, I believe the elderly gentleman had witnessed true Christ-like behavior in our children. Children do not have to behave wildly...they can get excited...have fun...run and be kids, but they do not have to be "out of control.... » More
