Project: 10 Quick Ways to Say I Love You
By Rondi Hillstrom Davis and Janell Sewall Oakes
Feb 9, 2009, 15:46
Put a smile on your loved one's face with these irresistible gestures of love that only take a quick second to prepare.
1. Cover a matchbox with decorative paper. Place a love note inside and pop it into your child's lunchbox or under a loved one's pillow.
2. Make a heart garland. Draw and cut out several hearts on colored construction paper. You can use a heart shaped cookie cutter as a stencil. Punch two holes in each heart, one on each side, then string the hearts together with yarn. Hang your garland above the door, between the bedposts, or in a window.
3. Join two thumbprints together to form a heart. Use a stamp pad or paints to make heart cards, wrapping paper or your own stationary and note cards.
4. Surprise your family with pockets full of love. Fill small cellophane bags with candy red hot hearts. Tie them shut with a ribbon. Hide the bags in your kids' pockets, their shoes, or your husband's suit pocket.
5. For sweet dreams, decorate a plain white pillowcase with love notes. Be sure to place a sheet of newspaper between the layers, so your paint or permanent markers won't bleed through. This is a great present to tuck inside a suitcase, for someone who travels.
6. Using clean paint brush and some milk, draw an invisible heart on a piece of bread. Your heart will appear when the bread is toasted.
7. Make cookie cards. Roll out sugar cookie dough and cut it into heart shapes. Poke a hole, the size of a pencil eraser, in the top of each cookie before baking. Decorate your cookies with sprinkles and icing. Finish with a ribbon bow tied through each cookie.
8. Personalize mini chocolate bars with your own wrappers. Use the existing wrapper as a pattern. Choose colorful gift paper or write your own messages and decorate them with little drawings. Secure your wrappers with a piece of tape.
9. Share your love by giving of your time. Read a chapter book together, plan a family outing, or send a personal letter to a relative who lives far away.
10. Kiss your kids good night. Sometimes the simplest gestures have the biggest impact.
